A Passage to India Ink

Yesterday I saw the new Christopher Isherwood literary exhibition at the Huntington Library in Pasadena.

I've read all of Isherwood's books, most of which were for sale in the museum's gift shop.  The available books included an Isherwood sampler called "Where Joy Resides," with an introduction by Gore Vidal.

Among the items in the exhibition was a handwritten letter to Isherwood from E.M. Forster, dated June 25, 1948.  It includes the following passage, which I jotted down:

Tennessee Williams got up too late to reach Cambridge.  Vidal arrived, and I wish hadn't, as I disliked him a lot.

From this we can reasonably conclude that Vidal won't be writing any laudatory introductions for Forster's works.
