How the son of a Kenyan economist became an Illinois Everyman. [posted by Troy] & I quote, "This seems to be a pattern in Illinois. Paul Simon was the most respected political figure in the state for decades. He was a liberal Democrat who came from a conservative downstate region where his name remains political gold. The universal explanation for Simon's near-universal popularity is `integrity,' and this spring I heard the word a lot from people discussing Obama. It refers to consistency and incorruptibility, but also to a refusal to resort to smear politics." Read the entire column.

Phish is breaking up, but I thought that they were already broken. [posted by ZelderBar] Phish announced that they are, again, breaking up. After Jordan, The Eagles, The Beatles, and countless others have retired, returned, retired again, returned, re-unioned, reshuffled, rerun, can we really believe that anyone is really gone? I guess that last time, Phish was just taking a break, and now they are touring for the summer. Go buy your tickets, this could be the last tour...before the next tour.

It's your money. [posted by ZelderBar] An interview on NPR sparked this investigation. Check out the chart on this page that shows where the price per gallon of gas goes. Gas has hit an all-time high of $2.07/gallon. (It's about $2.25-$2.30 in Chicago.)Here's the question: With gas this expensive, do you drive less? I know that I don't. How high would it have to get to force you drive less? $3-$4/gallon?
