Cry Wolf The Co-workers are skeptical [posted by Troy] Well, the news that I have engaged Kim has rapidly spread around Moraine Valley Community College. Most are very happy for us, but they do not quite understand my enjoyment at making them wait five days before they found out at the Frankenstein reception. Naturally, almost all of the women I work with were very happy to take credit for my work, while most of the (married) men had a touch of sympathy hidden behind their smiles. There were others who refused to believe that Kim & I were engaged. After our Apirl 1st post, a certain department chair told me, in no uncertain terms, that he wouldn't believe anything he read on our Web site. Illini Women Controversies that Caught My Eye [posted by ZelderBar] Here are a couple of things that caught my eye. Illinois State Senate President Emil Jones has threatened to cut funding to the University of Illinois if they don't dump the Chief as a mascot. But you see, the Chief is used as a symbol of respect for the native peoples of Illinois. We can't help it if they get pissed off everytime some white college kid dressed in traditional dress dances around before a football game. Don't they get it? Sure we killed them and kicked them off their land, but we only want to acknowledge the long standing tie between football and Native Americans. Sheesh! It's about respect! Equal Pay Law Being Used: Now, this probably isn't true in DesMoines, IA, but in Illinois statistics show that women only earn $.71 to every dollar earned by men.
