There were no surprises on the run to Chicago, IL today.

The temperature this morning was around 35-degrees in Milwaukee, WI but below freezing in parts of Illinois.  However, by the end of the week, it is supposed to climb into the 70's during the day.  Yeah!

Back at the warehouse, I bob-tailed after another driver (also bob-tailing) to drop that truck off at a detail shop.  One of the drivers on our team quit and left the cab in a mess.  Driving a truck is one of the few professions where you can totally trash the inside of a vehicle's cab and if you quit, you can just walk away from it.  Disgusting!  Who knows--the company may take the amount required to clean up the truck out of the ex-driver's last paycheck.  I hope they do.

I also got the opportunity to briefly fill in Mr. N. about how driving for the other dedicated account went the other day.  In addition, I kind of mentioned that since safety is a big issue with our company, it is in the company's best interests to try--as much as possible--to keep drivers on a consistent sleep schedule (actually I brought up my sleep schedule but I hope he could read between the lines).  Earlier in the afternoon I had been pre-planned to deliver up in mid-state Wisconsin at 4:00 AM (after dropping a trailer in the greater Milwaukee area!).  That meant I would totally screw up my sleep pattern since I would have to wake-up around 11:00 PM tonight (even if I got to bed early, I'd probably toss and turn and get only 1 or 2 hours of sleep/rest).  So, the end result of our conversation was that I'd be taking a trailer down to Chicago tomorrow morning (I'll still be getting up early--but not as early!).

miles driven = 235

PostScript: I just remembered a tractor-trailer I passed today coming from Chicago back up to Milwaukee.  He was weaving from lane-to-lane.  The poor guy was taking a power nap as he was driving on the Toll-way.  And he drove for one of the big national companies!  One more example of why drivers need a consistent sleep schedule in order to keep themselves safe as well as everyone else sharing the road with them.

PostScript2: Mr. T (a dispatch intern) called me up later on and said that I'd be still going to Chicago but now I'd be taking a rail container from Milwaukee to Chicago.  So, I'll get to sleep in even more.  Hmm...maybe I should ask for a raise.  After all, I brought up the sleep issue and I was given plenty of time to sleep!  HA -- I'm kidding of course.  (Although rumor has it that the driving team will be getting a raise sometime in the summertime.  Cool!)
