Well, my 9:00 AM appointment in the Racine, WI area for picking up my rail container freight was changed to 12:30 PM. So, I'm at a truck stop killing time before my appointment comes up. Although I've got a few online tasks to do, it would have been nice for my company to leave a message with me yesterday afternoon when they found out about the appointment change. That way I could get things done around the home front.
I figure I'll get to the appointment one hour early to see if they can take me early. Even so, if everything goes smoothly, I'll most likely catch the Chicago, IL afternoon/evening rush hour on the way back to Milwaukee, WI. Oh well, the best made plans....
miles driven = 244
PostScript: I was underway by early afternoon and managed to hit the typical mid-afternoon rush hour in downtown Chicago. I was in and out of the 1st rail yard fairly quickly. I got held up going to the 2nd rail yard to pick up freight headed to Menomonee Falls, WI because of a grass fire off of I-55. I never saw the grass fire, just the traffic back up because of the fire which had probably already been extinguished.
At the 2nd rail yard, it took me forever to locate my rail container (note to self: stop in at the office next time and find out the exact location of the trailer in the yard!). Once hooked up to it, I made surprisingly good time back to the Milwaukee, WI area. I managed to miss most of the traffic hot-spot tie-ups in the Chicago area in late afternoon.
I delivered in Menomonee Falls and was back at the warehouse before 8:00 PM. I got home in time to say good night to the kids. Oh yeah, it turns out my son has tonsillitis (sp?) and may miss one more day of school.
Tomorrow I'll be heading up to Oshkosh, WI for a rail load destined for Washington via the rail yard in Chicago.
