2003 Denver Mayoral Runoff Election
The Rocky Mountain News reports that Don Mares is taking a more aggressive approach to the election. At a forum yesterday at the City Park Festival of the Arts Mares continued to point out differences between himself and John Hickenlooper at one point calling Hickenlooper a "naive politician." The Denver Post also has an article on the forum and endorsements in the mayoral campaign.
The Denver Post looks at some of the issues around businesspeople making the transition to leading cities as mayor. From the article, "But when those newly elected leaders arrive in the corridors of power, they bump into entrenched bureaucracies, wily political opponents and unruly critics." Yup, sounds like Denver to me. Heh.
Here's and editorial from the Rocky Mountain News about the city's budget crisis. It was interesting to read that the city was in the habit of deficit spending long before sales tax revenues went south. I work for the city and I wonder where the Rocky gets the idea that Mayor Webb worked out a deal with employees to cut the budget. Must have been one of those closed door, backroom, insider, deals.
Here's a short piece about the candidate's having to juggle parental duties while running for office.
