2003 Denver Mayoral Runoff Election
Both Don Mares and John Hickenlooper are courting minority voters in this year's election according to the Denver Post. From the article, "Not a single public assertion of bigotry or race-baiting has popped up from either camp. Minority voters have been openly, if not feverishly, courted by both candidates, however." The article has an interesting sidebar with historical perspectives on how minority communities effected the last 5 mayoral elections. Another short article from the Post focuses on younger Hispanic professionals and their difficulties in deciding on a candidate.
The Denver Post is reporting that Mayor Webb has announced that he will not endorse either mayoral candidate. According to the Post, "The move did not come as a surprise to political observers who have said for weeks that Webb's endorsement could both hurt and help candidate John Hickenlooper. His opponent, Don Mares, has had a tumultuous relationship with the mayor in recent years, making a Webb endorsement unlikely." Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News and a table listing some of the endorsements that each candidate has garnered so far in the race.
Did John Hickenlooper imply that he would lower parking rates in his first TV ad? The Denver Post looks at the issue in this story.
The Rocky Mountain News has a short public interest piece about Don Mares' and his guitar playing during yesterday's phone interviews with KBCO. E-mail from the campaign says that the segment will be repeated this morning on KBCO at 6:20AM and 7:20AM.
