Senator Allard on Media Consolidation

Senator Wayne Allard speaks out on media consolidation and the FCC vote coming up June 2nd in today's Denver Post. Allard wants more debate on the subject.

Coupled with Govenor Owens' veto of the Super-DMCA Colorado version the events signal that the pols are listening to the IT industry.

Dave Winer is covering the conspiracy space.

2003 Denver Runoff Election for Auditor

I missed seeing that Ed Thomas' campaign posted his TV ad on the website. They have it available in Real, Quicktime, and .wmp formats showing an inclusive attitude. The ad link is right up top, easy to see, and leaves me no good excuse for having missed it.

2003 Denver Municipal Runoff Election - Events for 5/25-6/2

For those of you that are still undecided in the mayoral race there are a lot of chances to see Don Mares and John Hickenlooper up close over the next week. All three of the television stations have at least one debate scheduled.

For a schedule of events check out Don Mares' events page or John Hickenlooper's event page. The two lists do not track consistently and Mares' page includes more community events than Hickenlooper's does. Of course Mares is the candidate that needs to get voters to his side quickly.

Marcus Pachner, running for City Council District 5, has a couple of events listed on his website for this week. You have to click on the "Upcoming Events" link to view them.

Veronica Barela, running for City Council District 9, has events listed here.

Caroline Schomp, running for City Council District 10, lists no events but does have Channel 8 coverage listed on her website.

I don't see any listing on DenverGov for the auditor debate that they said they were going to reschedule. I'll keep looking.

I suggest that you contact the campaigns for events in the races that you are interested in. You can get to each candidate website from DenverGov.

2003 Denver Mayoral Runoff Election

The Denver Post takes a closer look at the budget plans from both Don Mares and John Hickenlooper. From the article, "Mayoral contender John Hickenlooper may be overestimating his ability to achieve his proposed personnel cuts and offers no specifics on how he would otherwise trim city spending, according to a Denver Post analysis of his budget plan. And the proposal put forward by challenger Don Mares relies on several one-time-only, stop- gap measures that wouldn't withstand ongoing economic woes forecast for the city, the analysis shows."

The Denver Post further analyses their poll from last week. The article quotes Hickenlooper spokesperson, Lindy Eichenbaum Lent, as saying "We've said it before and will say it again. The only poll that matters is on election day, and we will keep working harder each day to earn one vote at a time and make sure that everyone knows how important it is to vote on June 3."

Update: I was wrong about the poll above. It is a separate poll from one early in the week. The first one was taken May 18-21 while the poll above was take May 19-20.

Update: Latino voters are split in this year's mayoral runoff election according to Bilingual News and Services.

The Post weighs in with another editorial defending John Hickenlooper.
