Weblogs at Harvard - Texas Super-DMCA

The Texas Super-DMCA is apparently dead. They mention Texas, Colorado, Tennessee and Oregon as states that have killed their versions of the bills. Colorado was rescued by a veto. I wonder if the Texas bill died because of the Democrats that hid out in Oklahoma? If so then God bless 'em. Below is the link to Weblogs at Harvard:

Texas Super-DMCA Evidently Dead.

Writes Edward Felten:

Louis Trager at the Washington Internet Daily reports that the Texas Super-DMCA bill appears to be dead, as this year's legislative session ended without any action on the bill.

[...]

The is another significant victory for Super-DMCA opponents, along with the veto of the Colorado bill, and the withdrawal of the Tennessee and Oregon bills by their sponsors.

Trager quotes MPAA Vice President Vans Stevenson as saying that "Time is on our side. We have all the time in the world."

Apparently MPAA will be patient, in the hope that opponents will tire of the struggle, or maybe in the hope of finding new opportunities to introduce stealth bills. That may be MPAA's best hope, since the bills have fared poorly wherever open debate on their merits has been allowed.

2003 Denver City Council Runoff Election - District 10

Jeanne Robb has written a letter to the editor to explain her stand on issues important to her district. Says Robb, "Personal life experiences, the courage of friends in the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered community, and the discussions at my church - Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church - have all figured into my personal growth and changes that I believe have occurred in Denver neighborhoods."

2003 Denver Mayoral Runoff Election

The candidates in the runoff squared off on the Mike Rosen show yesterday according to the Rocky Mountain News. They continued the theme later in the evening at a downtown forum according to the Denver Post.

The Rocky Mountain News has an in-depth look at Don Mares today. From the article, "Because of the public nature of his resume, there's more of Mares to put under the microscope, more issues in which he's had a hand, more enemies trying to snipe away."

Don Mares has a new TV ad coming out that plays off John Hickenlooper's quirky ads. The Post has a story about the latest TV spots from both candidates.

The Rocky has a story analyzing campaign contributions for both mayoral candidates along with a table listing some details. Here's the coverage from the Denver Post.

The Denver Post has an article dealing touching on the issue of education vouchers. Neither candidate supports the law passed this last term in the State Legislature.

Here's a link to letters to the editor dealing with the election and a link to a letter in the Rocky.
