Denver November 2004 Election

Here's a story about Gary Hart's proposed run for a US Senate seat from the Denver Post [January 8, 2004, "Hart eyeing Senate bid, Dems say"]. From the article, "Several Democrats have lined up to challenge Campbell, but none are as well-known as Udall or Hart. (Mark) Udall's decision (not to run) has also prompted several other Democratic figures to look at a run. Former Hart chief of staff Tom Hoog is now waiting to see what Hart will do. Gates said that University of Colorado Regent Jim Martin is not waiting for Hart, but is 'moving ahead and talking to people.' State Sen. Dan Grossman, D-Denver, has also been mentioned as a possible candidate. Political newcomers Mike Miles of Colorado Springs and Brad Freedberg of Denver are already official candidates for the Democratic nomination. Larry E. Johnson of Boulder, who's run in the past as a Republican, has also filed with the Federal Election Commission. Republican Dan L. O'Bryant of Colorado Springs and Daniel James Barnett of Denver with the Christian Party have also filed to run."

Update: Now here's somthing cool, a Digital Democracy teach-in on February 9th organized by O'Reilly. From the website, "Effective Political Blogging Blogging is the voice of the revolution. Unscripted, bottom up -- blogging lets the people on the ground tell their own stories -- while syndication technology gives wide readership and lets news and insights bubble up to the top. This session will teach participants the essentials of successful blogging. What works. What doesn't. How to track the conversation flow and measure the impact of your own contributions using tools like feedster, technorati, blogdex and daypop." Any candidates looking for votes in Denver planning to go? Anyone out there want to send the Ol' Coyote to the shindig?

Update: Colorado Luis asks, Can Gary do it? Luis says, "I just worry that Gary is so cerebral that he won't get down and roll in the mud with Campbell. As I have said before, it is going to be a very nasty campaign because Campbell can't run on his record and will have to go negative. And in an era where image matters as much as policy, Hart will have to puncture Campbell's too-cool-for-school outsider pose."

2004 Presidential Election

Dick Cheney will be in Denver next Monday for a Bush-Cheney fund raiser. Here are the details from the Rocky Mountain News: 5 p.m. Monday, Hyatt Regency Denver, downtown; Fund-raiser for Bush- Cheney '04; $1,000 a plate.

There was a radio debate amongst the Democratic Presidential hopefuls Tuesday. Here's the coverage from the Denver Post [January 8, 2004, "Dems clash over taxes in radio debate"]. From the article, "Democratic presidential hopefuls clashed over taxes today in their second debate in three days, with Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt defending their calls to repeal President Bush's tax cuts despite rivals' claims that that would lead to higher taxes on the middle class." The article mentions a third Iowa debate coming up Sunday.

Update: Eric sends a link to an article about Willie Nelson's endorsement of Dennis Kucinich. The article includes lyrics the only the second protest song ever written by Nelson. Note: The song lyrics are not flattering to the administration.

Update: Howard Dean is still on top in Iowa according to this KCCI Television poll. Thanks to the Daily Kos for the link.

Update: Here's a new Survey USA poll for IA, NH, AZ, SC, and OK showing Dean holding on to his lead with Dick Gephardt and John Kerry closing the gap.
