Colorado Water

Here's an article from the Cortez Journal about the various water bills introduced in this year's legislative session. I like the one that wants us to dry up the Denver Aquifer before tapping Rainy side water.

Water users in the Dolores River drainage have formed the Dolores River Dialogue to discuss stream flows.

Denver November 2004 Election

Here's an article about Mike Miles from Westword. The article details Mr. Miles experience and qualifications. He knows it'll be a hard fight to unseat Ben Nighthorse Campbell, especially with lukewarm support from the Democratic party. Mr. Miles is quoted as saying, "We're losing our democracy, the system I fought for. I want to be a gladiator for democracy."

Mr. Miles, please read Robert Kuttner's assessment of the shape of things in Washington D.C. You might reconsider your candidacy.

2004 Presidential Election

Wesley Clark is taking is calling for an investigation into statements the Dick Cheney made in an interview with the Rocky Mountain News last week, according to the Rocky [January 26, 2004, "Clark decries VP's comments to News"]. From the article, "The Weekly Standard article was based on leaked intelligence reports that had been forwarded to Congress. In response to the story, the Department of Defense said certain still-classified raw intelligence reports had been sent to the Senate Intelligence Committee but that it was "inaccurate" to report that officials had confirmed new information about ties between Iraq and al-Qaida." Here's the link to the full transcript of the interview [January 26, 2004, "Transcript of interview with Vice President Dick Cheney"].

Here's a story about David Kay and his conclusions about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq from the Denver Post [Januaray 26, 2004, "Inspector: CIA erred with Iraq"]. It looks like the intelligence community is going to take the fall for the missing WMD.

Mike Littwin writes about the new decaf Howard Dean in his column it today's Rocky [January 26, 2004, "Littwin: In overheated race, Dean banks his fires"]. Littwin is wondering, as are all of us watching this campaign, if Howard Dean can overcome the dip in his poll numbers after the third place finish in Iowa.

Here's an article that focuses on the veteran status of John Kerry and Wesley Clark as advantages going into tomorrow's primary in New Hampshire [January 26, 2004, "Dems' race for vets may be 2-man fight"]. One New Hampshire father is quoted as saying, "I don't want my two sons - they're approaching teenage years - I don't want them hitting that age and have a commander in chief who doesn't understand the seriousness of war." It appears that the issues around the war in Iraq will not go away soon in this election year. The question is how it will play with the voters.

NHPrimary.com "New Hampshire Democrats could vote in record numbers on primary day, Secretary of State William Gardner predicts. With seven major presidential candidates to choose from and an energized base, Democrats could break a record set in 1992, Gardner said."

Here's the latest American Research Group tracking poll for New Hampshire. John Kerry is far out in front with 38%, Howard Dean is second with 20%. Wesley Clark and John Edwards fill out the top of the pack with 16% 1nd 15% respectively. Joe Lieberman, who seemed to be gaining momentum is tied with Undecided at 5%. Thanks to Taegan Goddard for the link.

The Daily Kos has the numbers for three February 3rd states along with New Hampshire. Dean really needs a good showing tomorrow.

Here's a short bit from Joshua Micah Marshall about Howard Dean's prospects.

Update: Taegan Goddard points to two polls showing John Kerry and Howard Dean in a virtual tie going into tommorrow's primary in New Hampshire.

Update: The Daily Kos is tracking the tracking polls for New Hampshire.

Update: Here's the link to last night's Public Radio show the Blogging of the President.
