Romney for President?
Oval Office 2008: "Given that he is developing a slight reputation as someone who can't make his mind up on key issues, it is worrying to see Massachusetts Republican Governor Mitt Romney change his tune so quickly on whether or not he is considering a presidential run."
Oval Office 2008: "Hearst Newspapers columnist Marianne Means, carried here in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, has noticed that recently declared presidential candidate Joe Biden is a US Senator. 'The strongest candidates in both parties now are coming from Capitol Hill, not the statehouses,' Means writes, and wonders why so few governors have so far come to the fore."
Coyote Gulch reader, Owen Burnett, provided the following links:
9News: "Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado) says he will run for President in 2008 if that's what it will take to get a 'legitimate' national discussion on the topic of immigration reform."
Arkansas News Bureau: "In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life...Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock."
CNSNews.com: "The co-sponsor of legislation to make it more difficult for illegal aliens to find work in the United States said Tuesday that the Bush administration is encouraging the illegal entry by offering amnesty and is trying to cover up the proof of its actions. U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) has consistently warned that the 'Temporary Worker Program," proposed by President Bush in January, would, "encourage millions of people to come here illegally seeking his amnesty proposal.' The White House denies that the program is the equivalent of amnesty, but Tancredo disagrees."

Owens and Referendum C
The Denver Post editorial staff is patting Governor Owens on the back for his stand on Referendum C [July 4, 2005, "Owens shows fiscal vision"]. They write, "Gov. Bill Owens gave a clear and convincing diagnosis of what ails Colorado's budget during a debate last week with fellow Republican Dick Armey that aired on KBDI-Channel 12."

Water Utility Leaks
It looks like Colorado water utilities are re-charging underground aquifers inadvertently, according to the Rocky Mountain News [July 4, 2005, "Utilities lose 9.5% of water to leaks"]. From the article, "Colorado utilities lose enough water from their systems each year - an average of 9.5 percent of the water they attempt to deliver - to almost fill Chatfield Reservoir south of Denver, according to a Rocky Mountain News analysis. In times of drought, such losses are the topic of highly charged community debates, as utilities prod their customers to stop wasting water even as they struggle to track their own leaks...Colorado's largest municipal utility, Denver Water, loses about 4.6 percent of the water it seeks to deliver, or 3.45 billion gallons."

Independence Day
Happy Independence Day all you patriots. This includes moderates, liberals, conservatives. Coyote Gulch loves you all, although at times he has questioned the wisdom of all groups.
Dave Winer: "On this day in 1776, we decided we had enough of King George, and didn't want to live in his company colony any more, and told him he could take his empire and shove it. They're still a little bitter about it over there, but it turned out pretty well over here, more or less."
It never hurts to re-read the Declaration of Independence alledged to have been written on one of these.
"Even if the flag burning amendment does become law, the larger problem will remain of how to respectfully dispose of older, tattered flags. Well, fortunately the U.S. official Flag Code has a suggestion about this. Quote: 'The flag, when it is in such a condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.' Owwwwcchh. In response, the House Republicans are calling for tattered flags to be kept alive via a feeding tube." --Jon Stewart. Thanks to The Moderate Voice
