Walmart Workers Rights
Union organizers are using the Internet to reach out and form a network - WalmartWorkersRights.org. Go on over there and help 'em out.

Coyote Gulch is happy to post the link. In his younger days he belonged a union.

Mayor Hickenlooper - State of the City
Coyote Gulch expects to be front and center for the Mayor's State of the City address tomorrow.

Here's the coverage from last year's event. I hate it that the Rocky links are no longer working. Sigh.

Howard Dean
Billings Gazette: "Citing the 2004 election of Gov. Brian Schweitzer, Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean said Tuesday he believes the red Rocky Mountain states are ripe for gain by his party. In a telephone interview, Dean cited the 'strong libertarian' and strong fiscal conservative beliefs of many Rocky Mountain states' residents."

Political Wire: "Virginia Gov. Mark Warner (D) "is trying to make the case that experience with domestic policy can translate into expertise in foreign policy and national security as he meets with Democrats around the country in a prelude to a possible run for president in 2008," The Hill reports. This strategy resembles the approach taken by the only two successful Democratic candidates for president since 1960: Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton."

Blogs for Bush: "As we and other bloggers have extensively demonstrated, there is nothing to the story - Karl Rove didn't 'out' a covert CIA agent, the CIA agent was not covert, no one's career was destroyed (indeed, Wilson made a tidy sum out of the affair...and, of course, no one exposed an Administration lie requiring Rovian retaliation because there was no lie to expose; in fact, the only lies told in the case were told by the man, Wilson, who is said to have exposed lies. Wilson lied about what he found vis a vis Saddam's attempt to obtain uranium in Africa; Wilson actually confirmed Administration assertions, reported as much to the CIA and then went out and lied all about it in the New York Times and in the Senate."

TalkLeft: "Time reporter Matthew Cooper testified for two and one half hours before the grand jury today. He named Karl Rove as his source and said he would write about the details of his testimony in an upcoming Time article. His lawyer handed out copies of a waiver signed by Robert Luskin, Karl Rove's attorney."

Bolton
Stygius: "The Washington Post revisits the stalled John Bolton nomination, as the White House again floats the recess appointment balloon, but the meat of the story is news that Bolton wants to use the UN Ambassadorship to influence administration policy, contrary to what the Senate was told this spring."

Blogs for Bush replaced their graphic of John Bolton with a nice tribute to London.

Outside the BBC Universe
Paul Mason: "A blog is born: We did not so much break the BBC rules when setting up the blog but shimmied through them like Tana Umaga. Having been assigned to cover the protests around Gleneagles I decided to do a 'proof of concept' blog and show it to the editor. He liked it, our web editor got it signed off and that was it. Apparently the BBC bosses had just had a big awayday where they decided to stop being clipboard merchants and prioritise innovation, so no-one felt like nixing it. And yet there was nothing that said it should be allowed. As one person put it: 'this is outside the BBC universe' - and I thought: that puts it rather well..."

Larson-Isgar Smell Test
A picture named irrigationsmall.jpgIt's always a sure bet that Montezuma County will be listening closely to any water solutions being cooked up in Denver. The Cortez Journal reports on the report released on Monday.

Coyote Gulch maintains that any water solution needs to pass the Larson-Isgar smell test to have any chance.

Referendum C
Peter Blake asks where the Colorado Republicans really stand on Referendum C in his column in today's Rocky Mountain News [july 13, 2005, "Blake: Ref C confounds GOP"]. Blake writes, "The Democratic leadership, at least, is solidly in favor of the ballot issues, but the GOP is split and can't decide how to ride out the summer and fall campaign. Gov. Bill Owens, titular head of the party, is for the proposals. But he knows many Republicans are not and he's persuaded the party organization to hunker down and not take a stand."

Tancredo for President?
Here's an article about Tom Tancredo and the issue of immigration from the Rocky Mountain News [July 13, 2005, "Tancredo brings his message"]. From the article, "During a three-day barnstorming trip, Tancredo, a Littleton Republican, also faced cases of mistaken identity, a mind-numbing schedule of interviews and a swarm of insects that seemed straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Despite all that, Tancredo created a buzz of his own. He got enough standing ovations from hard-core conservative Iowa voters that it should worry any top-tier presidential hopefuls who thought they could get through 2008 without touching the immigration hot-button."

Kourlis for Supremes?
A picture named rebeccalovekourlis.jpgHere's an article about support building around Colorado Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Love Kourlis to replace retiring Sandra Day O'Connor, from the Rocky Mountain News [July 13, 2005, "Looking toward West"]. From the article, "Kourlis and her husband, Tom Kourlis, have a ranch near Craig. A graduate of Stanford University Law School, Rebecca Kourlis practiced law in Denver and Craig in the 1970s and 1980s. She became a state district judge in northwestern Colorado in 1987 and was chief judge there from 1991 to 1994. She is the daughter of the late John Love, a former Colorado governor. Another Westerner, Judge Michael McConnell of Utah, who serves on the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, also has been mentioned frequently as a potential U.S. Supreme Court justice. Conway said Allard also has received letters recommending McConnell but far fewer than those urging Kourlis' nomination."
