The Kindness of Strangers
Dan Gillmor: "But the lesson is mainly that people will help when they can. I'm grateful to these folks, and look forward to the next time I can do someone else a favor."

Blogher
A picture named blogher.jpgThe BlogHer conference is happening today. Here's an early report from Halley Suitt.

New Planet
NASA: "10th planet discovered...The planet was discovered by, in addition to Brown, Chad Trujillo, of the Gemini Observatory in Mauna Kea, Hawaii, and David Rabinowitz, of Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. They first photographed the new planet with the 48-inch Samuel Oschin Telescope on October 31, 2003. The object was so far away, however, that its motion was not detected until they reanalyzed the data in January of this year. In the last seven months, the scientists have been studying the planet to better estimate its size and its motions."

Bolton
TalkLeft: "This just in via e-mail...36 Senate Democrats including all leadership just signed this letter."

Josh Marshall: "Well, John Bolton didn't tell the truth on his senate disclosure form. But that won't stop President Bush from sending him to the UN. AP has the story: Bush to make the recess appointment next week."

Blogs for Bush: "President Bush is reportedly going to take advantage of the congressional summer recess and appoint John Bolton to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Democrats, trying to make a mountain out of an anthill, are urging Bush to choose someone else instead of Bolton because of Bolton's oversight (which he said he'd correct) on his questionaire. I hope Bush doesn't fold on us because of this stupid little Democrat trick. Appoint Bolton, President Bush... Appoint him!"

Western Primary?
Western Democrat: "The good citizens at the Tucson Citizen have a short opinion piece on a Western primary. They are for it."

Immigration issues just won't go away. From TalkLeft, "Horror story of the day."

Oval Office 2008: "In a huge surprise to absolutely no one, Illinois Democratic Senator Barack Obama insisted that 'there's zero chance he'll run for president in 2008,' Associated Press reports, carried by WQAD-8 of Moline, Ill."

Oval Office 2008: "First of all we have Hillary Clinton. The nation has 'gone off track' since her husband was president, she said. She argued 'that the party adopt a hard line on national security and back an increase in troop strength' and 'also called for expanded health care, increased jobs and better education,' AP reports. (I defy you to show me a politician calling for fewer jobs and worse education)."

Holtzman - No on Referendums C and D
Here's an opinion piece from Mark Holtzman in opposition to Referendums C and D, from today's Rocky Mountain News [July 20, 2005, "Speakout: Rejecting Refs C & D will set up comprehensive fix of budget ills"]. He writes, "Saying no to C and D will set the table for a comprehensive fix to Colorado's budget difficulties. The 2003 defeat of Referendum A's blank check for state water projects led to this session's innovative new Interbasin Compact Committee. With the defeat of C and D, we can include reform of Amendment 23 in any solution to the state's budget challenges."

Reuse of Treated Wastewater
A picture named uppermcpheesmall.jpgReuse of wastewater has good potential for helping solve supply problems, according to the Rocky Mountain News [July 30 2005, "Water reuse seen as way to stretch resource"]. From the article, "Denver Water spent $100 million on a water-recycling plant, and plumbing systems for City Park, Washington Park and the housing developments at Lowry and Stapleton use recycled water, said Chips Barry, manager of Denver Water. About 45 percent of Denver's water supply comes from the Western Slope and can be reused, he said. Denver's reuse system is the second largest in the nation behind Phoenix."

Municipalities like Parker are hoping to mix treated wastewater with supplies for retreatment according to Frank Jaeger. He plans to pipe wastewater into Rueter-Hess reservoir for retreatment. This, of course, obivates the need for separate plumbing systems.
