TalkLeft: "Hundreds gathered to protest the Minutemen posse in New Mexico Saturday."

Oliver Willis: "I'm quite liberal, and as against this war in Iraq as much as the next left-winger...but when I see that Jane Fonda is going to go around in a van powered by vegetable oil protesting I sort of throw up in my mouth a little." Ouch.

Interruptible Supply Agreements for the Colorado?
A picture named leechpoolsmall.jpgA coalition of western environmental interests is proposing interruptible supply agreements with farmers to keep water in the Colorado River during droughts, according to the Rocky Mountain News [July 25, 2005, "Plan aims to boost lakes Mead, Powell"]. From the article, "The same concept also could work among water users on the Colorado River, if key players, including water utilities and the federal government, agree to help fund the program, said Jennifer Pitt, a Boulder-based analyst for Environmental Defense. The proposal was written by Environmental Defense, the Pacific Institute, the Sierra Club, the Defenders of Wildlife, the National Wildlife Federation and the Sonoran Institute. It comes as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation prepares for its first round of public hearings next week to gather new ideas on managing the drought-plagued Colorado River."

The Rocky also has the listings for hearings and comments on the river plan: Tuesday: Henderson, Nev., 10 a.m to noon (PDT), Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.; Thursday: Salt Lake City, 10 a.m. to noon, Hilton Hotel, 255 South West Temple; Officials will take written comments through Aug. 31 for the Lower Colorado region at Strategies@lc.usbr.gov, or by fax at 702-293-8156; For the Upper Colorado region, the e-mail address is Strategies@uc.usbr.gov, or fax 801-524-3858."

? for Governor
Here's an analysis of fund-raising in the Governor's race from the Rocky Mountain News [July 25, 2005, "GOP out-raises Dems in governor's race"]. From the article, "The two Republicans running for governor clobbered the two Democratic candidates in fundraising, but pundits are split over why. Together, Democrats Rutt Bridges and Bill Ritter raised less than either Republican contender Bob Beauprez or Marc Holtzman, according to the latest campaign finance reports."
