Wireless Boulder
New West: "According to Lyon, Boulder now boasts the nation's first solar-powered wireless network. 'It's free, and it works,' she says. Now if they could only get it to stretch up to Four-Mile Canyon ... "

Referendum C
Ari Armstrong: "I was sleepily browsing through the Rocky Mountain News online on July 8 when I came across a link that shocked me to full attention. 'State wastes lots of cash, ballot-measure foes say,' a headline read. I've been working on a paper outlining some examples of wasteful spending within state government, so the headline immediately made me uneasy. Sure enough: the article discussed an early draft of the paper that had been released prematurely to the press. Just great, I thought. I was upset for awhile, but I've since decided it's not that big a deal. But no writer wants the general public to read (or read about) an early, unpolished and unfinished draft of anything."
Here's the Coyote Gulch coverage. Thanks to Walter In Denver for the link.

Rove
Bull Moose: "The Moose urges the donkey not to obsess on Karl.
"No one can match the Moose in his loathing of Karl Rove. Rove is the purveyor of the worst in American politics. It would be a grand day if he takes the perp walk.
"Ultimately though, his fate is in the hands of the grand jury and the special counsel - or according to the latest reports - in the hands of Bob Novak. Either they have the goods on him or they don't. We'll know soon. In the meantime, if the Democrats obsess on him and he is innocent of the charges, he could re-emerge even stronger."
Daniel Schorr: "Let me remind you that the underlying issue in the Karl Rove controversy is not a leak, but a war and how America was misled into that war." Thank to Dave Winer for the link.
Western Democrat: "Gov. Tom Vilsack of Iowa, just like Bill Clinton did before he became President, has become chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council. This matters because it isn't an uncommon tactic for Democratic governors to take the lead of national organizations to try to raise their national profile."

Trinity Test
Deep Blade Journal: "Trinity, July 16, 1945 5:29am"
2020 Hindsight: "Robert Wilson, physicist, recalls, 'It was one my memories of that time having to go up the tower to turn on a piece of equipment. So I was one of the last - not the last person by any means - but one of the last people to get our equipment that was right next to the bomb, to have it all turned on and tested before starting the test. It was quite dramatic because lightning was striking all around, there was quite a fierce storm going on. In particular one had a certain amount of respect for that atomic bomb, being right next [to it] as sparks seemed to be flying. It did give me a little bit of a sense of apprehension.'"

Udall or Allard for Senate?
Peter Blake highlights an early battle in the 2008 U.S. Senate race, in his column in today's Rocky Mountain News [July 16, 2005, "Blake: Will park lease fight launch '08 Senate race?"]. He writes, "You may already have had a bellyful of the nascent 2006 campaigns, but do save room for the dessert in 2008. Udall, who had a one-night stand with the 2004 Senate campaign but deferred to alpha male Ken Salazar, already has declared his intention to run in 2008, this time for real by golly. Allard, who earlier said he wasn't interested in a third term, is showing signs of changing his mind."
