LONDON, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Logica today announced a 10 million pound, five-year build and managed IT outsourcing contract to provide Countrywide Property Lawyers (CPL) with a new conveyancing system.  CPL, the largest residential conveyancers in England and Wales will roll out the new system across five regional centres in Brentwood, Cardiff, Manchester, Northampton and Woking.

Forrester, 8/6/02:  North American IT Spending Has Stabilized In 2002, According To The New Forrester Research Business Technographics Study

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2002--Firms will spend 2.3 percent more on IT in 2002 than in 2001, and 82 percent of these firms will at least retain their current budgets over the second half of the year, according to Forrester Research (Nasdaq: FORR). Forrester's semiannual Business Technographics(R) North America Benchmark Study examines the state of North American companies' IT budgets, purchase plans, and control of IT processes.

"Although IT budgets have stopped bleeding, it's still a harsh buyer's market for tech vendors," said Tom Pohlmann, senior analyst at Forrester. "In areas like IT outsourcing and enterprise apps, a vendor's best hope is to squeeze incremental business out of its installed base of customers."

Companies that have gone XP are the kind that are comfortable with acquiring the newest, cutting-edge thing as soon as it comes on the market. 

When Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT)  introduced its latest operating system, Windows XP , late last year, the primary focus seemed to be on the consumer market. Ads filled with a peppy Madonna song and lovely blue skies were meant to get home users thinking XP.

Missing from the airwaves was the equivalent for a business audience; no three-piece suited execs drifting through the clouds, looking for a better OS. But even without the strains of the Material Girl, some companies did decide to upgrade to the business version, Windows XP Professional.

ITWorld, 8/6/02:  IDC: Microsoft on verge of security blitz

NEW YORK - Microsoft Corp. is poised for an onslaught into the security software market that could displace many of the sector's leading vendors, IDC analyst Chris Christiansen forecast Tuesday during a keynote address here at CIBC World Markets' Enterprise and E-Business Software Conference.

Microsoft is backing its pledge to make security a top priority with significant research and development investment, and future releases of its major products will be "considerably cleaner," said Christiansen, vice president of IDC's e-business infrastructure and Internet security software program, in Framingham, Massachusetts. IDC is a unit of International Data Group Inc., the parent company of the IDG News Service.
