I'm back in NYC. Actually, I've been traveling so much in the past few days that Gotham feels like home. My limo driver (in New York, we all have limo drivers) dropped me off at Trattoria dell'Arte, our very classy neighborhood bar, where Peter and Sandi were waiting for me with drinks and dessert. Ah...what a way to be greeted after a hard day's work.
One more tornado comment, I do have to say that in all my years of tornado sheltering during Kansas summers, this is the first time I’ve taken shelter in a ballroom. It was a vast improvement over my Grandmother’s cellar. Cox seems to be a classy operation – they even provided refreshments for all of us.

Well, I'm on a very bumpy flight back to New York City from Atlanta. What an amazing day - fifteen hours of travel, presentations, tornado avoiding, and hobnobbing. I think I'm tuckered out...
Anyhoo, I think my presentation went pretty well. The tornado break actually helped me. Prior to The Wizard of Oz redux, I was getting kind of nervous. I've prepared a godzillion number of power point presentations. But I've never actually done one for a large group of people that I've never met. But I wasn't bad - I was even funny and managed to get my points across. There were lots of questions - which does seem to be at least a small indicator of success.
So, I'm pleased. And even more pleased that I'm on my way back to NYC.

Weather Update: The weather system has cleared our immediate neighborhood, so our conference is getting back underway. Man, after all those people cleared out leaving just us thirty bandwidth folks, it is quiet...
Looks like I'll be doing my presentation after all.

So, I'm sitting in the middle of the Bandwidth summit here at Cox in Atlanta. Our conference has just been interrupted by an extreme weather warning - part of the severe tornado swarms that have been making their way across the Mid-West towards the Atlantic Seaboard.
All one thousand Cox employees are evacuating to our conference room. It's an unbelievable scene!
I wonder if I'll even get to do my presentation.
Actually, I wonder if I'll make it back to New York City tonight.

Last night, we dinned at my favorite restaurant in the whole world: Aqavit. Aqavit specializes in high end Scandanavian cuisine. "Scandanavian cusine?" you ask. Trust me on this, it is fabulous. It's not all herring and roe. Instead it's Kobe beef, Arctic Char (an Alaskan favorite), fois gras, duck sausage, and devine (beyond devine) desserts. Absolute heaven.
Sandi Seville, an transplanted Alaskan now living in Gotham, joined us. We had an absolute blast - I'm afraid we might have been a little loud for the Aqavit elegant environs. Fortunately we were seated right next to the two story waterfall, so the falling water noise covered up for us.
Sandi's New York dating experiences were hilarious. NYC dating is a scream - the logistics are like nowhere else. No one in The City has a car - so there's no picking up one's date. Instead one meets in subway stations and then makes out in cabs on the way home. If things go well, the woman invites the man upstairs. If things aren't at an advanced stage, the man heads home in the cab without the coveted upstairs trip.
This seems like Junior High all over again.

It's 8:00 AM and here I sit in LaGuardia airport awaiting my flight to Atlanta. Today's the day that I'm an executive Slat Rat. I jet my way down to Atlanta to do a presentation on GCI's Internet tiering strategy. I'll spend almost ten hours total in transit today for a four hour session. I won't get back to our NYC hotel room until 10:30 PM tonight. Whew!
This little business jaunt was inserted at the very last minute into our New York - Florida vacation. The Ski Boy has been very understanding. Whilst I'm off on a mission for Corporate America, he'll be running, shopping, and doing the Broadway thing (Urinetown).
