Oooh - so, "Josh," the big Newf, wins it all! I think that's great! It's rare that a large dog (other than a German Shepherd) wins Westminster.

Of course, the Bouvier didn't even place in the herding group. However, the great news on the Bouvier front is that an Alaskan bred Bouv, Ch Sleeping Lady's Tanqueray, received an Award of Merit.

Tanqueray was bred by Judy McConnell - one of the great nice people in dogdom. I got to know her when she first got into the dog breeding biz. She's really wonderful and I'm very happy for her.

Oh, and I have to add, that one year, Clemmie's uncle won the Bouvs at Westminster. Clemmie, herself, has several points towards her championship. But after a bit, she decided dog shows were stupid and that she'd rather skijor. So, she started slouching and moping in the show ring. And that was that - you really can't fault her assessment of the dog show biz...

This is has been quite the day - we're in the midst of a major Chinook: we set a record high of 45 degrees above zero, the winds have been howling with gusts up to 80 miles per hour, and the poor Ski Boy tried to go for a run this afternoon but just as he stepped outside, it started pouring rain.

To top it all off, we had quite the little earthquake at 11:34 AM AST: the magnitude was 5.6 on the Richter Scale. Not huge by Alaska standards, but it was a roller and it shook for a loooong time. I was in a work session with two other folks, I thought it was the wind - our building sways in high winds. But this kept going and going and going. After a bit, it was pretty clear it was not the wind. I moved away from the window - my number one recurring earthquake nightmare is that I'm in a tall building, the earthquake starts, the window pops out, and I slide right out where the window used to be. I always wake up as I'm falling towards the ground. So, I do not hang out next to windows in earthquakes.

I'm working with a number of consultants up from Outside on one of our big projects. I wonder how they reacted! I'll bet for that many of them, this was their first earthquake!
