Clemmie definitely seems to be a Kesler - we're notorious for our inability to tolerate narcotics. We have all sorts of weird reactions.

As I type, Clem doesn't seem to be in any pain, but is most likely very disconcerted by whatever sort of reality distortion she's experiencing. She slept for the first hour after we got home, but since has been whining continously and appears to be very out of sorts. Poor kid. I think I'm going to call the vet back and see if we can just give something to Clem to make her very sleepy. She needs to sleep this off!

Update: the vet was leery of adding additional meds on top of what Clem already has in her. They suggested that we just leave her comfortably resting in a dark room and let her go to sleep. I wish somebody would prescribe that for me!

Clemmie and I just returned from Pet Emergency.

First, the backstory: Several years ago, Clemmie tore her ACL and then eighteen months ago, she completely blew it out. So, that ligament is very problematic.

Sometime this morning, Clem really retweaked the knee - the driveway is very icy and she may have slipped. Of course, she might have also caused it when she launched herself off the bed at 4:45 AM this morning in hopes of breakfast.

Anyhoo, this afternoon, she was in quite a bit of discomfort. She couldn't lay down and was really whining and even crying. Bouviers have famously high pain thresholds, so if Clemmie was crying, it was clear she was in a bad way. I bundled her up and we motored over to Pet Emergency - why these things only happen on the weekend are beyond me!!!

The vet checked her out - nothing seriously wrong - no damaged back or something like that. Just a horribly tweaked knee. So, the vet gave Clemmie a nice big shot of narcotic happy juice.

As I type, Cleemie is zoned out next to me. Although not so zoned out that she's not lobbying for dinner. So that's a good sign. Hopefully, the shot will get her over the hump on the pain front.

Poor Clem. It's no fun getting old. Although, on second thought, the narcotic shots could be fun...
