As I mentioned earlier, I'm the War Room Captain for our DLPS OSS deployment.
Well, if one is a War Room Captain, one must have a War Room to captain. Which I do. GCI's Local Services offices are in the Dimond Center - a large mall located in South Anchorage. We've also leased temporary space that was initially used for testing and has now morphed into the WR.
The temporary space is on the same floor, but far far far removed from GCI's offices. So it is a very long hike to the bathroom.
But as one is treking to the potty, one transits actual real live mall space. I'm not a mall goer, so this temporary duty assignment has really opened my eyes to mall circadian rhythms.
When I get to work, between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM, the early bird mall walkers are out in force. Our end of the mall is very popular because we're above the ice rink and the Muffin Stop is also in the same area.
So the early bird walkers do their circuits and then meet for coffee and muffins at the Muffin Stop. The early birds are almost all 65 years old and above. They're also very energetic and purposeful in their walking - one needs to look both ways so that one doesn't get mowed down.
By 9:00 AM, the next walking shift comes on duty. This is a younger, but less energetic crowd. Also, folks with physical difficulties seem to walk during this time period.
The mall stores open for business at 10:00 AM. Mall traffic picks up slightly.
Lunch time is when the adults have their ice skating lessons.
Starting at about 2:30 PM, kid traffic picks up as schools start letting out. The junior figure skating club has their practice. High schools kids come to hang out.
At 5:00 PM, families start wandering in.
When I leave between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, the mall is bustling with families, kids, etc...
I feel like an anthropologist on Mars.
