In Anchorage during Springtime, the most welcome sight for many of us is not the first glimpse of green grass or plants poking their heads up through the ground.
Nope. It's the street cleaners. Those squatty little trucks with the brushes puttering down the streets sweeping up all the nasty, gritty, ugly, dust cloud and asthma producing dirt. And why do our streets end up covered with dirt after the snow melts? Well, all winter long, during icy spells, the city sands the streets. And, this sand accumulates for six months. By April the roads are totally nasty.
So, we love our street cleaners. I just wish there were more of them.
