Only 4 hours and 18 minutes until the Deadline! Just a few hours remain until the entry deadline for this year's Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic. As a note, the ice on the Tanana River went out yesterday afternoon. There were six correct guesses in the 88th Annual Nenana Ice Classic - an all Alaska tradition - it's our version of the lottery. Each winning ticket was worth $36,120 after taxes. Our little Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic is not nearly so rich - but a $25 gift certificate to Amazon is still pretty spiffy! 7:42:26 PM    comment []

The Funnies I am a HUGE fan of the funny pages - a predilection I definitely inherited from my Dad. He subscribed to three different Sunday newspapers just for the comics. Well - Anchorage is a one paper town. So, multiple local subscriptions are not an option. However, RSS subscriptions are an option. If you look over to the left, you'll note a new little heading: "The Funnies." Listed under the title, are two of my current favorite comics that are not carried in the local paper - Get Fuzzy and Over the Hedge. Obviously, I like comics with smart, sarcastic, and cute (but not cutesy) critters. A big thanks to Tapestry for providing the RSS feeds. And another big thanks to the book Radio Userland Kick Start by Roger Cadenhead. I never would have figured out how to do the whole shebang without Chapter 7. 7:34:02 PM    comment []
