As I type, it is 45 degrees outside. We've had a cold and wet weekend. So what does this mean for the Third Annual Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic?
Well, I'm not sure - the Lagoon looks much the same as it did on Wednesday when I took this picture. However, the open lead at the east end where Chester Creek drains into the Lagoon has spread a tad - it's probably 100 feet by 50 feet.
The ice was certainly sogged down by all the rain and snow on Friday.
Peter's theory is that because of the Chester Creek drainage, the water underneath the ice will warm up faster than the surface of the ice. The low warmer water will subsume the ice. What this all means in terms of when the ice goes out, is anybody's guess.
