It was a blistering 71 degrees today!!!!
The normal high for this date is 52 degrees - which based on my experience, is totally typical for this early in May. Which is why I guess it is the normal (average) high.
The old record was 66 degrees set way back in 1961 (when I was a mere 2 and a half years old)...Definitely an ancient record....
This stretch of weather has been amazing - five days ago, there was no way no how the leaves were going to make it out by Mother's Day. Which is the weekend they always pop out - in the 38 years that we've lived here, the leaves have only missed Mother's Day twice.
Mom and I were sure that this year would make the third time. But noooooo. As Mom posted, the trees went from nothingness - tall brown sticks with no buds, no nothing, to leaves in just two days. As Mom said, "For me, that is a yearly wonder of Alaska."
