Today was the big day! Songya graduated 2nd in her class from Grand Junction High School!

The graduation ceremony was at the unheard of hour of 8:00 AM. Trust me routing out at 6:15 AM (4:15 AM) Alaska time was no easy task. However, given how hot Grand Junction can be, an 8:00 AM start time is actually merciful.

The ceremony itself was actually very nice - easily the best high school graduation I've ever attended. This is not to say that the graduating class was not rowdy - beach balls and anatomically correct inflatible dolls were bounced about throughout the ceremony. However, they were not bounced during speechs - just during transitions. Which I thought was quite polite. And of course, the attending teachers confiscated the anatomically correct inflatible items.

The speeches were all short and well done. And the 450 graduates were briskly moved through diploma handing out phase. The entire deal was only an hour and a half. Not bad at all! Especially since we were sitting on metal stadium benches.

So, now for the pictures:

Here's the Graduate and her very very proud Mom.

Here's me and Songya (I was wearing my Alaska hoody because it was a tad breezy)

And here's the family - from left to right - Michael (Songya's cousin), Mei-Ling, Songya, and me. The only person missing from this picture is Dad - he would have been so proud.
