The mosquitos are out and boy are they bad this year...Our backyard is a vampiric feeding frenzy.
Evidently our cold wet Spring has resulted in a major bumper crop.
As the Daily News described:
The mosquitoes rose from the underbrush near Campbell Creek in clouds of darting specks. They whined in ears, pranced on necks, pricked exposed skin, crawled up sleeves, tickled cheeks, bit eyebrows.
Charming...In case you were wondering, living in Alaska isn't all beer and skittles.

This morning at 3:10 AM - just before it started to get light, we had a nice little earthquake - 5.3 on the Richter scale. It certainly jolted me awake, but I'm an infamous "Princess and the Pea" light sleeper. But the little shaker was a topic of conversation today, so I wasn't the only one who noticed it.
I wonder if Aunt Jane, Uncle Tom, Julia, or Tom were shaken awake. It would have certainly given them a bit of a thrill.
The quake was 77 miles directly west across Cook Inlet from Anchorage. It was 74 miles deep - which really seems way down there to me.
