This evening, Peter, Alix, Seth, and I went to Sack's for dinner. And we sat at the bar. Smarty Jones was definitely a topic of conversation up and down the bar. One of my fellow bar patrons proposed a toast to Smarty. He's still loved even though he ran out of gas today.

Well, I'm bummin'.

I actually screwed up the courage to watch the race and it was exciting. But, I had a bad feeling about Birdstone. I watched him come up - he looked strong. And Smarty looked like he was just hanging on as they rounded the corner into the backstretch. I know what it's like to be pooped in a long race. And Smarty had a bit of that look.

.

Oh well. I'm still a Smarty fan!!!!!

I admit it - I've hopped aboard the Smarty Jones train. How can one not root for a tough little horse who wins with such style? I've definitely been Seabiscuited.

Plus last week, on NPR's Saturday Edition, Scott Simon interviewed Laura Hillenbrand, the author of Seabiscuit. Laura loves Smarty Jones. So, if Laura is fan, I'm a fan too!

And Smarty Jones is such a totally cool name!!!!!

I don't know if I'll be able to stand the tension of watching the Belmont live. What I will probably do is TiVo the race, and then find out who won. If it's Smarty, I'll then watch the race.
