Anchorage has one of the great urban king salmon fisheries in the world. Ship Creek is home to a very active annual king run. The winner of this year's derby pulled out a 56 pounder - trust me - that's a very big fish!
Ship Creek runs through the industrial section of town but as the result of quite a bit of a work, it is a very clean waterway and is the centerpiece of a downtown urban beautification project.
East of downtown, Ship Creek contains a couple falls that make for some pretty amazing jumping giant king salmon acrobatics. The falls are in a very picturesque area and most folks have no idea that the falls even exist. A very cool little spot.
Anyhoo, Peter, Erin, and I visited the falls last night. I tried and tried and tried to get a picture of a jumping king salmon. But when your camera has a two second shutter delay, it's pretty much impossible.
However, below is a somewhat lame picture of a micro king at the tail end of his failed leap. I may try again in the next few weeks for a better picture.
This shutter delay thing would be a big big reason to do a camera upgrade!
