I did another Geocache today. Geocaching in Alaska this time of year is tricky. The mosquitos are soooooooo unbelievably thick that one selects caches based not on difficulty but whether or not they're in mosquito country. The entertaining cache log entries let you know whether skeeters are an issue. Comments such as "You'd better put on a mosquito suit when you attempt this cache," indicate that perhaps one should wait until August for that particular cache.

The cache I chose today, Heart of S'nard was a very cleverly hidden non-skeeter cache. Not all caches require bushwacking.

A self portrait of the successful geocaching slat rat.

The clever hide.

The micro cache was suspended down into the fence post. Totally non-visable. But the lat long coordinates were right on and the clue said "Neon green plastic cylinder suspended 6 feet high (but not in plain site). I looked at that fence, decided it was about 6 feet high, then looked at the post, noted that its cap was off to one side and there was a little hook peeking out from inside of the post. Bingo!

As I type, the sun is shining, a light breeze is blowing, Queen's "We are the Champions" is blaring from a neighbor's stereo, spectators are clapping and shouting "only a half mile to go!", and very weary but happy marathoners are plodding their way past our back deck and up the hill.
