Almost every Friday night, Peter and I have dinner at Sack's. We sit at the bar, have good wine, a superb dinner, kibbitz with JoAnn and Jose, and watch the people come and go.
First Friday's are especially fun. The first Friday evening of every month is art walk night - all of the galleries mount their new displays on the first Friday. So there are artists' receptions at each gallery, lots of munchies, drinks, etc. Downtown is generally quite busy. Even on a chilly night like tonight - when we left Sack's, Henry's thermometer showed two below zero.
Actually the cold nights are the most entertaining. Tonight's parka display was amazing. Fabulous village fur parkas; lined cloth parkies with fur ruffs. Very pretty indeed.
Yeah. I know. The fur trade is bad. But, it's different in Alaska. The parkas are part of a native and subsistence heritage. Besides, it's bleepin' below zero. Parkas are the way to go.
