I scurried home after my afternoon geocaching adventure, showered, put on my glamorous duds and am now headed off to the Concert Association's annual Oscar Gala. Should be tons of fun!

When geocaching, one has all sorts of adventures. This afternoon I started working my way through the 6 step/cache multi-cache Stuck on Circles. The second cache is located under a bench (which was buried in snow) at Lake Hood - the largest floatplane/skiplane airport in the world.

While I was excavating the bench, I noticed several ski planes landing right in front of me. Oooh - definite photo op! I dug my camera out of the bag and set it on the bench. I continued digging and was finally able to get up under the bench where the cache was located. I got the cache, filled in the log, set everything down on the bench, took a nifty geocaching still life picture, and then looked up.

Looked up just in time to see a plane wildly careening across the lake, perpendicular to the landing strip. And then in a big puff of snow, it augered in. I couldn't believe what I just saw. Wow - I can't tell you how many times I have had dreams where I've watched a plane crash. And there this afternoon, in real life, I watched a plane go splat. Fortunately, it wasn't too bad - the plane didn't fall from air and go splat. It's my guess that they were starting to taxi and the throttle got stuck wide open and didn't shut down until the plane slammed into the snow bank. Certainly a bad afternoon for the pilot.

Here's a picture of our little red toppled over plane:

I am contemplating photo series entitled, Yoga With Your Bouvier. I just finished up my yoga set and Clemmie was very helpful with several poses. She picked a spot on the top of the mat and whenever I wrapped around her in one position or another, she gave me a big kiss or a head butt.

Friday, I took a quick twenty minute break from work, zoomed over to REI and purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 60CS GPS. It is a very expensive unit. However, I had two hefty gift cards that covered the bulk of the purchase. So, it wasn't quite as bad as it could have been.

The GPSMAP 60CS may be the coolest GPS ever - big color screen, fast loading, tons of features, and most importantly, a big honking antenna!

So, I've got to perform the GPS's initial setup. When you initially configure a GPS, you load in your home coordinates, set the date/time, calibrate the compass, etc. The factory loaded home coordinates are the mothership coordinates - which happen to be Taiwan. When I display the map page, a map of Taiwan comes up and the home waypoint is "GRMTWN". Which I would guess is short for Garmin Town. It could also be Garmin - Taiwan. But, it's cute nevertheless - that when you first turn on your GPS in Anchorage, Alaska that the GPS is insisting that you are Taiwan. However, as soon as it gets its bearings - i.e. homes in on the satellites, it will figure out that it has moved from the tropics to the Frozen North.

Anyhoo, to celebrate, I'm taking it out on its first geocaching trip today. And what a day for geocaching: 32 degrees and bright sun. The snow looks marvelous!!!!
