Last Saturday, Peter, Tyge, and I did the Winner Creek trail with Linda, Brian, and their German Shorthair poochie, Buster. I love the Winner Creeek trail - it's down in Girdwood and is a tremendous example of an extreme northern rainforest. Incredibly lush and green - verdant to the max.
I've never done the trail all the way to the hand tram - and boy, have I been missing out. The tram swings out high above Crook Creek gorge just prior to Crow Creek's confluence with Winner Creek. A total take-your-breath-away-jaw-dropper. Especially for those of us who have issues with heights - as in, scared to death of heights.
However, I couldn't not do the tram. It was just too amazing. So, I stepped into the cage, and immediately, my stomach went kerplunk as the cage swung back and forth on the edge of the gorge. But the swinging settled down and I got comfy with the cage and the rope. So, I carefully set out on my little journey. One moves the hand tram by letting out the rope - which isn't nearly as scary as it sounds. The tram does not take off at all, it moves very slowly and deliberately and it's actually really neat.
I made it out to the middle of the gorge, took a bunch of pictures, and then pulled myself back. Now that was a ton of work. As one approaches the side, one starts pulling uphill - an unbelievable upper body workout. I about died by the time I made it back. By then, I was long past worrying about heights. I just wanted to sit down and have a cold beer!
Now for some pictures!
Peter and Tyge on the trail! What a handsome pair! (But, note the clean state of Tyge's paws - that will change)

Linda and Buster!

Me and Tyge - check out Tyge's paws!

Another Tyge and Steph shot. I really like this one - up next to a nifty big mossy rock.

Here I am in the cage. Note the nervous grin. I was scared to death.

Swingin' out over the gorge. It really looks impressive doesn't it?

The view down! Gulp!
