Scott Kelby in his latest Mac Design In the Mac Lane column poses a one-question quiz on whether you ought to be a PC or a Mac user.
- When you want a donut, you go to:
- Dunkin’ Donuts®
- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts®
- Whichever is closer
Is a donut just a donut to you? If you have never inhaled the divine effluence that is a Krispy Kreme® donut, then you may answer “1” or “3” immediately. If you have, then, even if you did select “3,” the question gave you pause, did it not?
For those into the quantitative argument (i.e., MHz matter), good as Dunkin’ Donuts® donuts are, being able to eat forty, even fifty of them will never match the experience of the single first bite into a Krispy Kreme® donut.
Macintosh users understand in a visceral way that computing can be an exquisite experience. IBM and clone users may pay lip service to the aesthetic experience of computing, but until they use a Macintosh, they can never feel it in their gut.

Working on site in Philadelphia, this story was very much on everyone’s minds. Mark my words, Erica Pratt is going to grow up into a strong-willed, powerhouse of a woman. The child is parent to the grown up. Or something like that.

I noticed something about my phone behavior on closing calls.
When told, I will talk to you later, I say, See you.
Note the modal dissonance?
When told, I'll see you then, I say, Good-bye.
Huh.

If you can’t have a productive day, at least an eventful one.
A Maryland car turned into John’s as we were coming back from Chinatown, on Twelfth and Vine. Rod, Steve, John, and I were unhurt.
I suppose here would be the best place to speak of the tall blonde in a summery blue but professional dress that walked out of a nearby office ten minutes later then drove back an hour later, just as we were leaving?

Warren Buffet: "CEO's don't need 'independent' directors, oversight committees or auditors absolutely free of conflicts of interest. They simply need to do what's right." [by way of Scripting News] Cicero was into the republican virtue thing as well. The republic may be saved by shoring up the character of its constituents. He ended up dead as the Roman republic crumbled under the second triumvirate, his faithful disciple Octavianus, later Augustus Cæsar, signing the order calling for his death, on Marcus Antonius’s request. Virtue is well and good, but it must be shored up with mechanisms ensuring good behavior, or at least consequences for bad behavior.
