SUED: Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota Vikings
Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper is being sued by Nike. They claim he breached a contract by signing with Reebok without giving Nike a chance to match the offer. Culpepper had signed a one-year deal with Nike in July ’00, which allegedly gave Nike the right to match any other offer. Culpepper allegedly agreed to re-sign with Nike verbally back in October, but the deal hasn’t been completed.

JAILED: Rodney Wright, Buffalo Bills
Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills rookie WR Rodney Wright, a seventh-round draft selection, was arrested Tuesday on charges that he injured two people during a hit-and-run crash. Wright surrendered Tuesday afternoon and was jailed on reckless driving and felony hit-and-run charges.

FAILED DRUG TEST: Jan Ullrich, German cyclist

Reuters reports top German cyclist Jan Ullrich and the 1997 Tour de France winner has tested positive for an amphetamine while training after a knee operation. Amphetamines are banned substances and classed by the IOC as stimulants. Ullrich faces possible suspension.

FAILED DRUG TEST: Laurent Paumier, French cyclist

PARIS – The Associated Press reports French rider Laurent Paumier was dropped from the Tour de France after failing a drug test. Paumier was withdrawn by his AG2R Prevoyance team after testing positive for corticosteroids, which serves as an anti-inflammatory or to treat asthma or allergies, team manager Vincent Lavenu said.

PLEA: Guilty, Troy D. Grooms

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Associated Press reports man charged with sexually assaulting the sister of former New York Knicks forward Marcus Camby during a hostage standoff was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

SHOTS FIRED: Home of Troy Hudson, Orlando Magic

MAITLAND, Fla. – The Associated Press reports masked gunmen attacked three people outside the home of Orlando Magic point guard Troy Hudson, fatally shooting a 20-year-old man and pistol-whipping a 15-year-old boy.

KILLED: Jefferson da Silva Brito, World Cup Celebrant

PARAMARIBO, Suriname -- The Associated Press reports a Brazilian gold miner was shot and killed in Suriname during a party to celebrate his country's World Cup soccer victory over Germany.

CHARGED: Charles Alexander, former NCAA basketball player

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Associated Press reports former Oklahoma State basketball player Glendon Alexander was charged with allegedly stealing $150,000 in cash and jewelry from former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Derek Bell.

REINSTATED: Justin Gatlin, American sprinter

PARIS – Reuters reports a two-year ban on promising young American sprinter Justin Gatlin has been lifted by the sport's governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federation.
