Frontline offered an excellent segment on missile defense last night. It won't change anyone's mind as the subject is more theological than technological in the minds of many. Nevertheless it represents a huge expenditure of talent and money and it seems that the level of debate should be greater.
It strikes me that the proponents associated with the Bush administration as not so stupid to believe that a short term threat exists, but rather are invoking a story to move towards something far more sophisticated to empower the imperial America they are putting together a few decades down the road - America est imperare orbi universo.

One wonders what happens to the deployment of resources and talent when something really bad goes off in a shipping container in Newark or San Francisco Harbor.
