Some people would argue the country has one industrial research lab at this point (IBM), others would argue none. How did this happen. Robert Cringely has some thoughts -

I think it is deeper than this, but agree there are serious consequences. At least he notes a very happy story about Research in Motion - it almost makes you want to use a Blackberry.

Many of the streaming stations I have been listening to have gone silent in the past week. A few are still in operation and I'm going to make an effort to recommend a few favorites.

KVNO in Omaha is a good PBS station - mostly classical and jazz. They once had a fine show called "Beyond the Edge" that explored new music. It seems to have gone away, but the station is still recommendable.

Be sure and support the public stations that you frequent. It confuses them when someone calls in from 2000 miles away, but the support will get attention and (perhaps) keep the webcasts streaming.

Not my favorite, but loved by some (thanks for the link Jheri) is CHRW in London, Ontario. This is a very eclectic station. It will be curious to see how non-US steaming stations are treated

Another interesting Canadian station is CJSW in Calgary ... they have several really quirky shows that you won't find in ClearChannel style stations.
