It would appear the latest round of anti-tobacco ads is working and the tobacco manufacturers are not amused.

Proof that Unix goodness has hit the Mac...

Apple published a ASCII QT movie player on their developer site a few days ago. The link takes you to an "improved" version. This may be the proper way to watch Apple's Switch ads or even LOTR trailers.

More on looking for man-made objects on the moon. Greg pointed out a note on the VLT in Chile - it is an interferometer with an incredible resolution (as opposed to light gathering) aperature. Amazing ... 200 meters! Thanks Greg!

Anyone with a serious interest in particle physics probably subscribes to the CERN Courier. What makes it special is that it offers commentary and news on current results and techniques for the layman at a Scientific American level (OK - the old Scientific American .. the current publication has been refocused at the mass market).

In any event this is a great resource. I strongly agree with Robert Wilson who told Congress that Fermilab's contribution was not to the defense of America, but rather to what made the nation worth defending. Something tells me politicians wouldn't buy that sort of argument these days.
