A common complaint Linux users have about OS X is the lack of a virtual desktop. This isn't a completely valid as Virtual Desktop continues to improve. Sara points out that it is quite robust and usable at this point...

Thirty bucks and they have a trial version that limits you to two desktops.

Dan doesn't like the phone monopolies.

I share his anger, but doubt that anything will be done.

The local telecom monopoly investment in new plant and their new service offerings are not proportionate to the gifts they have been given by the government. I guess this is an excellent example of buying the right politicians.

With their grip on the last copper mile getting stronger I cannot recommend DSL as a high bandwidth option unless you are unable to get cable modem service. The cable companies aren't saintly but you get significantly more bandwidth per dollar with a cable modem and you are not funding the local telephone company.

One thing the monopolies seem to be very worried about (judging from their lobbying) is the public use of unlicensed spectrum for access. Check out what is taking place in the UK with mesh networks and WiFi.

Safari, the Apple browser for OS X , seems to be achieving a good deal of success, but it is clearly a work in progress and many people want a tabbed browser. A few are offering suggestions on what they would like a tabbed Safari to look like: suggestion a, suggestion b.

I tend to not use bookmarks (I have a half dozen) and rely on search engines and news aggregators for navigation and tend to find tabs superfluous.

Bill Staines is an amazing singer/songwriter. He has been singing for decades and was, among other things, plays guitar left handed and upside down and was the national yodeling champion about twenty five years ago. He bears more than a passing resemblance to Gregg Vesonder ...

So I was randomly looking around for yodeling material and remembered one of Bill's songs A Happy Yodel .. a bit of searching turned up a how to yodel kit featuring him and the legendary Patsy Montana as guest instructors. A few of you probably need to this one - you know who you are...

Speaking of knowing who you are ... the first piece of Animatrix is out .. A serious download.

Four episodes will be made available free on the web with a nine episode DVD appearing in a few months. The quality of the work is impressive.
