Kofi Annan: "Israel's deadly attack on the Lebanese village of Qana could be part of a 'pattern of violations of international law' committed during the almost month-long conflict with Hizbollah, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said, calling for a more comprehensive investigation into the 30 July bombardment."
But UNIFIL can't do very much.

Of course, Annan must be careful in his wording. A man like George Galloway is free to speak his mind, be it in his usual abrasive way. But he is right. Watch the video.

Ynetnews: "Three lawyers in Morocco filed an unusual war crimes lawsuit against defense minister Amir Peretz in recent days, according to a report in the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi.
The three argued that Peretz is guilty of premeditated crimes and strikes meant to harm civilians and damage national infrastructure as well as airports and seaports, in contradiction of international conventions."

Jimmy Carter: "There will be no substantive and permanent peace for any peoples in this troubled region as long as Israel is violating key UN resolutions, official American policy and the international 'road map' for peace by occupying Arab lands and oppressing the Palestinians. Except for mutually agreeable negotiated modifications, Israel's official pre-1967 borders must be honored. As were all previous administrations since the founding of Israel, US government leaders must be in the forefront of achieving this long-delayed goal."

ICH: "Calling Israel's war in Lebanon a catastrophe, the former president of Morgan Stanley International talks about the democrats' huge mistake in backing the Bush administration's Israel policy."

Guardian: "Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets over Tyre yesterday morning, warning people not to use vehicles south of the Litani river, heightening the city's sense of isolation.
The travel ban had no time limit and mentioned no exceptions, even for ambulances and humanitarian convoys."

Guardian: "Israel also threatened to attack UN peacekeepers if they attempted to repair bomb-damaged bridges in southern Lebanon."

If there existed any justice and equality (and they had the power to do so), NATO and the UN would have to send military forces to Israel and bomb their infrastructure like it was done in Yugoslavia to prevent ethnic cleansing. Unfortunately, in this world we have 'Übermenschen' who have the right to invade any country unpunished and 'Untermenschen' who happen to be the Arabs.

5News: The coming weeks Israeli fighter flights over Lebanon will be restricted due to the seasonal migration of birds, in particular storks, over the area. Slamming into one of these can wreak havoc on planes.

EUObserver: "Finnish foreign minister Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency since 1 July, has accused member states of leaking important foreign policy documents to countries outside the EU, including Israel."

MediaMatters: "On July 31, CNN's Paula Zahn Now featured a segment on 'whether the crisis in the Middle East is actually a prelude to the end of the world', marking the third time in eight days that CNN has devoted airtime to those claiming that the ongoing Mideast violence signals the coming of the Apocalypse."

The crux is that George W. Bush has delusions in that direction. As a latter-day moron he is prepared to take any risk to create a 'New Middle East'. And if you look at Condi's face when she talks about the 'New Middle East' and know what happened/happens in Iraq, it will be Armageddon.

Pat Buchanan: "In the ideology of 'democratic fundamentalism' to which George W. Bush converted after 9-11, we are simply in a rough patch on the glory road to a democratic Middle East and 'the end of tyranny on this earth'.
In reality, our situation has never been more grim.
The successful experiment that featured the 'freest, fairest elections ever held' in Palestine is dead. Over 125 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. The Gaza Strip is a shambles. The terror wing of Hamas will have no trouble recruiting in the rubble.
Now Lebanon is in ruin. The 900 dead, thousands wounded, the million refugees, the smashed infrastructure and the scores of thousands of Westerners who have fled means years before Lebanon recovers, if ever she does. Arab hatred of Israel and America is pandemic.

Americans are not all that far away from a strategic disaster.
Can Bush sustain support for the war as the news from Iraq gets worse and worse? For, if this war is lost on the home front, the war will be lost in Mesopotamia.
In Afghanistan, the Taliban are fighting in larger units and, colluding with drug lords, killing more Afghans and allied troops than they have in five years. Hamid Karzai reigns in Kabul but does not rule. U.S.-NATO forces are not losing battles, but they are insufficient in number to win the war.
The Israeli-American ace of trumps, raw military power, is still able to defeat armies and destroy states, but it has proven less effective in eradicating guerrillas, and counterproductive in changing Islamic hearts and minds.
If neither U.S. party is willing to show any independence of Israel, if America will not address the root causes of Arab animosity, and if we will not even negotiate with our enemies, we should probably pack up and get out of the Middle East. Before we are thrown out."

It is time to start weeping for Israel.

CleanElections: "DeLay and Abramoff were just the beginning. New scandals involving the rotten triangle of special interest lobbyists, wealthy donors, and our elected officials continue to break while we pay the price for this "pay-to-play" political system.
But there is a real solution: Clean Elections campaign reform. Already working in 7 states and 2 cities, Clean Elections helps keep politicians working for the voters and not for the special interests and their lobbyists by providing public campaign funding to qualified candidates that agree to forgo private contributions and follow strict spending limits."
