Jostein Gaarder: "There is no turning back. It is time to learn a new lesson: We do no longer recognize the state of Israel. We could not recognize the South African apartheid regime, nor did we recognize the Afghan Taliban regime. Then there were many who did not recognize Saddam Hussein's Iraq or the Serbs' ethnic cleansing. We must now get used to the idea: The state of Israel in its current form is history.

We do not believe in the notion of God's chosen people. We laugh at this people's fancies and weep over its misdeeds. To act as God's chosen people is not only stupid and arrogant, but a crime against humanity. We call it racism.

May spirit and word sweep away the apartheid walls of Israel. The state of Israel does not exist. It is now without defense, without skin. May the world therefore have mercy on the civilian population. For it is not civilian individuals at whom our doomsaying is directed.
We wish the people of Israel well, nothing but well, but we reserve the right not to eat Jaffa oranges as long as they taste foul and are poisonous. It was endurable to live some years without the blue grapes of apartheid.

We recognize the state of Israel of 1948, but not the one of 1967. It is the state of Israel that fails to recognize, respect, or defer to the internationally lawful Israeli state of 1948. Israel wants more; more water and more villages. To obtain this, there are those who want, with God's assistance, a final solution to the Palestinian problem.

We do not recognize the state of Israel. Not today, not as of this writing, not in the hour of grief and wrath. If the entire Israeli nation should fall to its own devices and parts of the population have to flee the occupied areas into another diaspora, then we say: May the surroundings stay calm and show them mercy. It is forever a crime without mitigation to lay hand on refugees and stateless people."

Guardian: "A major terror plot to kill hundreds of people by detonating explosives in the cabins of passenger aircraft over the Atlantic Ocean was disrupted overnight, the home secretary, John Reid, said today.
Police have arrested around 18 people in the London and Thames Valley areas."
BelfastTelegraph: "With immediate effect, all cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of the aircraft. According to the Department of Transport, passengers will be limited to a handful of items aboard the aircraft."

Just in time to take the pressure out of the bursting Blair kettle and divert attention. But why all those extra 'safety' measures when they caught the suspects? The real terror weapons land on UK airports with Tony's permission.

BBC: "A Labour MP has quit his defence post in protest at the UK government's policy on the Middle East.
Jim Sheridan, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, resigned as a parliamentary private secretary to the defence team.
He voiced concerns over the use of UK airports like Prestwick to refuel US aircraft travelling to Israel."

NewsFromUnderground: "Multiple military sources have told the Global Network that Pentagon personnel responsible for selecting targets for cruise missile first strike attacks have been sent to Israel.
This indicates that U.S. and Israeli military strategists are now likely meeting to plan a join attack on Syria and/or Iran."

YNetNews: "Fighters of the 51st Battalion of Golani received aid from an unusual source Tuesday.
A group of snipers hailing from states that had fought in battles in Chechnya and Afghanistan joined the battalion as it entered Bint Jbeil for the second time after it suffered a serious blow two weeks ago when eight of its soldiers, including the deputy battalion commander, were killed. The snipers were called up in an emergency draft to the war."

And don't worry, George W. Bush is working on proposals to exempt torturers from prosecution.

A picture named LightReps.jpg Scotsman: "Democrats' fury at war may sink Hillary Clinton."

All right, Ned Lamont beat Lieberman (watch the famous 'kiss').
But don't forget Lamont backs the Israeli strikes on Gaza and Lebanon. So, would he support an attack on Syria and Iran too? If he opposes the war in Iraq, he should also be against a new war on Syria and Iran. But then he doesn't realize that the present attack on Lebanon is only the preamble for an all-out war against the Middle East. D'uh!

And don't forget the Democrats (well, actually with a big help from Kohl and Genscher) brought us the war in Yugoslavia; you know, the bombing of infrastructure and bridges and civilians was first introduced then as a leading principle of war by the US. But the war crimes committed against the Serbs were kept silent.

In today's Bible lession, The Book of Ehud:
"But Ehud hearkeneth not, and sayeth unto himself:
"Perhaps I should extend the smiting to the Syrianites and then the Iranianites and all the rest of the Arabites.
"Until there is no one left to smite.
"And then the children of Israel may dwell in peace. Just as our forefathers didn't."
