TimesOnline: "Scores of American troops are deserting - even from the front line in Iraq. But where have they gone? And why isn't the US Army after them? Peter Laufer tracked down four of the deserters.

The Pentagon says that a total of 40,000 troops have deserted their posts (not simply those serving in Iraq) since the year 2000. This includes many who went Awol for family reasons."

Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem:
"Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.
(Matthew 5:9)

Christian Zionism is a modern theological and political movement that embraces the most extreme ideological positions of Zionism, thereby becoming detrimental to a just peace within Palestine and Israel. The Christian Zionist programme provides a worldview where the Gospel is identified with the ideology of empire, colonialism and militarism. In its extreme form, it laces an emphasis on apocalyptic events leading to the end of history rather than living Christ's love and justice today."

Haaretz: "A new United Nations report claims that Israel Defense Forces soldiers have killed 202 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Operation Summer Rain, launched in the wake of the abduction of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit in June."

Guardian: "Hizbullah last night admitted it would not have captured the two Israeli soldiers last month had it known a war would follow."
But it was clear Israel only sought a pretext to start the war.
