Bush And The Possibility Of Impeachment

Being caught in a lie is just about the worse thing a president can do. It led to Clinton's impeachment, Nixon's resignation, and Johnson being unable to run again for the reelection, and right now many are clamoring for President Bush to be held to the same standard. He and the rest of the administration repeatedly harped on the fact that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction poised to be used against the United States or sold to those who would use them. In speech after speech, Bush repeated that he had proof that Saddam had these weapons already in his possession, and that satellite photos and other intelligence showed where he was building more.
But now that Iraq is for the most part under US control, and that the US military has had the run of the country for several weeks now, none of these weapons or weapons sites have been found. None. Zero.
So logically, people are now wondering what sort of concrete evidence did Bush use to send Americans into war, some never to return home? It's now time to prove to the world why we went to war, and unfortunately that proof is non-existent.
Maybe those "weapons of mass destruction" will be found eventually, though if Bush and the CIA had so much proof of the existence of thousands of WMD before the war, then you'd think they could at least find one chemical bomb. One vial of anthrax. One laboratory. And even if these weapons are found soon, suspicions will be raised about why it took so long to find them and where exactly they came from.
So Bush has a huge problem on his hands. He must find what some are already calling "weapons of mass deception." But fortunately for him, the American public has all the memory capacity of an ice cube. And if someone does happen to remember any of this come election time, he or she will undoubtedly be labeled unpatriotic and told to go back to sleep.
