No Summertime Blues Yet
Yep, it's now the best time of the year for a teacher: summer (probably the best time for the students, too, but that's not the point). Time to recover, time to relax, time to sit by the phone and hope a principal from another school calls me up asking if I'd like to ply my trade on a campus far away from here. Yep, that's how my summer is going to go.
Actually, I wouldn't be starting my summer tonight if it weren't for two (now) former students: Joey and Elaine. They were nice enough to spend several hours out in my classroom today helping me pack everything up and bring it home. They didn't have to spend their first day of summer with me (it certainly never crossed my mind to spend any of my summer with any of my English teachers way back when) and they certainly didn't have to stay as long as they did (five hours) helping me out. Without them, I'd be back on campus next week still trying to wrap things up. Hopefully they know how much I appreciate them saving me from that.
First stop on my Summer 2003 Tour: the couch. I just got in the new Miller's Crossing dvd and I can't wait to watch it. My VHS copy long ago lost its luster. If you've never seen Miller's Crossing, give it a try. It's definitely a movie that gets better and better with each viewing.
Stop number two of the Summer 2003 Tour: graduation. More about that tomorrow.
