Sinking Even Lower

The picture to the left is of Kirsten Barrish, one of the sweethearts who has been in the news lately.  She's one of the senior high school girls caught on videotape beating the hell out of a bunch of junior girls near Chicago and covering them with all sorts of garbage, including human feces.  Several of the girls beaten ended up in the hospital.  The guy with her in the picture is her high-priced lawyer who has sued to block her suspension from school for her participation in the hazing.

If you haven't seen video of all this, go here.

I really wish I had a high quality copy of the videotape of this incident so I could use it in class when we read The Lord of the Flies.  Sometimes I have a hard time convincing students how savage anyone can turn under the right conditions.  Yet the students involved in this barbaric act all come from a relatively wealthy area of Chicago, have perhaps the best of everything money can buy, and yet these girls decide it's a good idea to force others to eat raw fish guts, strangle them with pig intestines, shoot them at point-blank range with paintguns, rub sh*t on their faces, and bash them over the head with plastic buckets and ice chests.

Perhaps even worse are the parents of these brats.  Who in their right mind goes out and gets a lawyer for their kid to try and squirm their way out of something as horrendous as this?  These young "ladies" deserve every last punishment they get, but yet the parents of some of them would hate for their princesses to miss the prom because they've been suspended for acting like an animal.  Worse than an animal, actually.  I don't know too many animals trying to choke each other with the intestines of another and then taking their crap and rubbing it all over them.

I would love to see just one of the parents get in front of the cameras and admit they are complete failures at raising a decent human being.  I'd also like to see one of the students get in front of the cameras and admit that what they did was inhuman and that they deserve whatever punishment society deems they should suffer for their actions.  But they won't.  They are living proof that all the money and privilege in the world can't buy you a soul or a sense of dignity.

Sad thing is, these girls are going to have kids of their own one day.  How great of parents do you think these monsters will be?  But then again, who needs parents when you have money and lawyers?
