Scenes From The NHS Induction Ceremony
Maybe I'm tooting my own horn a bit (but then again, this whole site seems to fulfill that purpose), but I think the NHS Induction Ceremony we put on tonight set a new standard for brevity. I wanted tonight to start promptly at 7:00 p.m., and by gosh golly gee, I believe we did. Then bang, bang, bang we zipped through the program and had the whole thing wrapped up in just 45 minutes. In fact, if our Acting Superintendent hadn't stretched his "just a few words" into a whole slew of words, I'd have had those parents over to the cake and ice cream five minutes sooner. But he was great, just like everyone involved. I'm very happy with how things turned out, and hopefully, so were the students and families.
Here are a few pictures I took at the event tonight. I couldn't exactly take a whole bunch because, well, that would have been odd, with me trying to host the event and all. But I tried my best, and if anyone else came up with some nice shots, send them my way and I may post them up as well.

The Jazz Band warmed up the crowd before the show began. For some reason several of my students in the band kept looking over at me while trying to hide grins. I'm sure their director isn't too pleased with me. They did great, though.

The two fearless NHS advisers: Ana Moreno and myself. In all honesty, without her, this whole induction ceremony wouldn't have been half as good as it was. I am completely in her debt for all the hard work she put into tonight.

The students are sworn in by our guest speaker, Judge Alia M. Ludlum. She was our only choice for speaker, and I'm so glad she came through for us. She's truly a remarkable person and it was great having her with us tonight.

Some of the new members of the National Honor Society. I have the privilege of having Elaine, Jaime, Robbie, Joey, Andrea, Lisa, Joaquin, and Daniel in my classes this year, and it has been one enjoyable year having them there. It was great seeing them so happy to finally be members of NHS.
So, that pretty much sums up the evening. Now regardless of my students' feelings on the matter, I am not grading their research papers tonight. Maybe not even tomorrow night, either. I have to recover from the NHS induced madness of the past few weeks. Research papers are strictly forbidden by my doctor.
