Here Kitty, Kitty
Anyone who knows me even remotely well is aware that I rarely buy anything without reading every review or epinion I can find on the thing. I don't care if it's a movie, a book, a dvd player, a car, or a vacuum cleaner (actually, if you know me remotely well you know I haven't purchased a vacuum since -- well, you could probably figure it out geologically by digging through the strata on my carpet -- let's just say it's been awhile), if I'm going to buy it, I want to make sure, if it's not the best my money can buy, it's the best for me.
All that said, it's surprising how I came to own a cat. For those of you not in the know, I have a critter named Franklin. The way he managed to take over my home truly was a spur-of-the-moment decision. An impulse buy. I was walking around a mall in San Antonio when I decided to check out the pet store, something I very rarely do. I noticed the big glass box that held all the kittens, took a peek inside, felt sorry for several of them who looked more miserable than a group of Staind fans, and decided to rescue one from his misery.
First kitten I picked, under closer examination, proved to be female. I don't know why, but at the time I was adament about having a woman move in. So we threw her back in and fished out another. This one was just slightly less cute, but just had a look in his eyes that said, "One day, I will throw up on your new jacket." I ignored that look, and decided he was going to the newest Mauldin in Eagle Pass.
That was almost five years ago. Since then, Franklin has grown a bit bigger (he was slightly larger than fist-sized when I dragged his furry butt home), and a bit weirder, but he's now no longer just a spur-of-the-moment thought. In fact, I can't picture him not being here any more.
But if I had to do it all over again, maybe I'd have read a review of felis catus, especially the young and rambunctious variety. Actually, what's most amusing to me about the review on that site is that the kitten in the pictures looks a lot like Franklin did back in his pre-teen days. Unfortunately, I have no pictures to prove it. As with much of this site, you'll just have to take my word for it.
By the way, neither my cat not the kitten in the review is as cute as this one:
