Future-at-Work
Please check out the following web site: Future-at-Work
It won't take you much time to go through this site. I offer the information as both an explanation and a way of sharing ideas. Also, I had the opportunity see the office space in Seattle when I was there a few years back. It made a big impression on me.
The future-at-work site represents some different and important ideas about the work environment and what it should be. It talks about how we are asking our people to be more creative and we are not providing a space that is conducive to the level of creativity, and productivity, required in a highly competitive world. Also, the feeling of the creators of future-at-work is that the work environment will gravitate to a homier look and feel. That is what my office represents, my interpretation of the future-at-work project and a home-like atmosphere.
And here is the point. The lessons of the future-at-work project are essential to the work place. Enterprises that do not adapt to these ideas will be disadvantaged by those who do. And so even though I purchased the furnishings and paid for them myself; I also feel that these purchases could be justified from a business standpoint.
I am a realist, however; and understand that I work for government and we are in a tough spot with our budget this year. So, no government funds will be used to purchase leather couches. Also, I will be using personal funds to do some of the things around the office that are important to me and provide a friendly atmosphere for my staff and those who visit.
Please let me know if you are interested in learning more or visiting my office. I'd be glad to spend some time discussing these ideas further.........
