Thoughts about News Reporting
I heard about Eason Jordan, chief news executive for CNN, for the first time yesterday. It was on one of these radio talk shows. It seems that Mr. Jordan has long known about the atrocities in Iraq. I found myself become angry at what was said and I thought that this story was either made up or grossly exaggerated.
I was so bugged about the story that I was thinking about it this morning. I decided to get on the web and see what I could find. Mr. Jordan's story was right there in the New York Times. Check it out and see for yourself.
It appalls me that Mr. Jordan felt the need to unburden himself at this late date. He has known about and, by his silence, sanctioned horrific Iraqi brutality. And for what? The ability to have a station in Baghdad. What good does it do to have reporters in place if you can't honestly report? And what does it say about CNN as a credible news agency?
I'm really torn. On one hand I feel that CNN has lost my respect as a news reporting source. On the other hand, I hate to punish Mr. Jordan. At least he finally had the guts to tell his story. All I can do is shake my head and wonder..........
