Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

I know. I was going to write more about Vendor Interaction. Well, not today. Instead I wanted to briefly recommend a book. I just finished "The Power of Simplicity" late last night. What a great book.

The irony is that I bought the book last summer and it's sat on my shelf for almost a year. I've been on this simplicity kick for several weeks, but didn't take time to read the book. In fact, I really forgot that I had it until I was doing some Spring cleaning last week. I stumbled across the book and decided it was time to read it.

It is a quick read. Each chapter is short and, need I say it, simple. I won't take time to explore the details here. That will come in several blogs over the next few weeks. For now I will tell you what I liked about the book, in general terms.

First, the authors aren't Covey guys. I like that. In fact, they are down on anyone who deals in "buzzwords". Covey, Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra are all on their list of buzz mongers. (For sure they do see that Covey is in a whole different class from these others.)

Second, the authors stress the use of common sense. If it doesn't make sense then it's probably not worth your time.

And third, they do keep the book, and the ideas, simple. I like that they do as they say.

So, read the book. Do it soon. We all need to get serious about simplicity.........
